Nite Light CIC – SRC

Infant Hercules Charity Club member SRC volunteered their time at Nite Light CIC, based in Southbank, to create sleeping bags out of recycled crisp packets for rough sleepers.

The sleeping bags are waterproof and warm due to the foil coating acting as an insulator. It takes 150 crisp packets to create a single sleeping bag. The charity collects crisp packets and is grateful for any donations.

Doug Harris, senior safety consultant said: “I am very much aware that we are all only two or three steps from homelessness should there be a traumatic circumstance suddenly arrive in our lives such as family breakdown, redundancy or a mental health illness perhaps. It’s unthinkable that we could be sleeping on the streets, without the ability to feed or clean ourselves properly and all of us should do something to prevent this or to make the lives of those who cannot avoid it just a little more comfortable. Knowing that others care is surely a source of warmth.”
